Census Data for Libraries: A Deeper Dive into Your Community

Census Data for Libraries: A Deeper Dive into Your Community

The MBLC invites all interested library staff and advocates who were not able to attend our spring sessions on discovering your community through Census Data, to an encore of Census Data 101 and Census Data: A Deeper Dive. Presenter from the U.S. Census Bureau, Nicole Esburnett McKenzie will, through live demonstrations, teach participants to how to use data.census.gov to gain meaningful data and insights into your library's community that libraries can then use to inform advocacy, programming, services and more! Questions are highly encouraged as personalized information can be acquired and viewed in real time. The second encore session will be:

Census Bureau Data:  A Deeper Dive into Your Community by the Numbers

In this workshop you will learn how to find population and demographic data for various geographies, using data.census.gov, the Census Bureau’s premiere online data platform. Understanding community characteristics can help inform and prioritize the need for library services, funding, and programs.  You will learn how to customize a search to find data tables on community population, demographics, socio-economic, and housing data.  We will provide a live demonstration of data.census.gov and show you how to use maps, charts, and access various data tables that can be downloaded and shared.
