Core Connections: Supporting BIPOC Library Workers

Connect and hear from Yolanda Prado and Sophie Kenney, two librarians from the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) committed to carving out space and fostering support for all library workers who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color. Yolanda and Sophie will discuss the RAILS BIPOC Library Workers Group and RAILS BIPOC Library Workers Mentorship Program — two inclusive programs for library professionals in Illinois that foster support and mitigate racial disparities. Massachusetts Librarian, Shilpa Jacobie, will facilitate this conversation with the following intended learning outcomes:

  1. Discuss the creation and evolution of the RAILS BIPOC Networking Group and RAILS BIPOC Library Workers Mentorship Program
  2. Highlight EDI work and challenges through voices of BIPOC library staff in Massachusetts and Illinois
  3. Share actionable tools and suggestions for creating spaces to uplift BIPOC experience in the library workplace
  4. Foster cross-state connections and share resources and best practices for all library workers who are Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color
